Using Unlinked Refunds (Blind Credits) with rezStream Payments
rezStream Payments supports Unlinked Refunds (also called Blind Credits). An Unlinked Refund / Blind Credit allows you to issue a refund directly to a guest’s card without tying it to a specific payment transaction.
This is useful if:

The original payment was processed outside of rezStream, but you’d like to issue a refund using rezStream Payments.

You want to refund a custom amount that does not match the original payment.
In rezStream Cloud, this appears as the option to click the red Refund button on an invoice and return money directly to the guest.
Enabling Unlinked Refunds
This feature is not enabled by default. To have it turned on for your business:

Contact Nexio Support by emailing support@nex.io.

rezStream will confirm with the payment processor that your business is approved for this feature.

You may need to sign additional paperwork.

Once approved, rezStream Support will activate the feature in your PMS.
After these steps are complete, you’ll be able to issue refunds directly through rezStream Payments.
How Refunds Work

Refunds can only be made to cards collected online (keyed-in), not to cards collected via a physical terminal.

On the refund screen, the card dropdown has been updated to show which cards are eligible for refunds:

Eligible cards (keyed-in) will appear as available.

Ineligible cards (terminal-collected) will appear grayed out and cannot be used for refunds.

The message you see on the refund screen may vary depending on your user permissions, but the refund process itself is the same.
Key Limitations

Refunds are not enabled automatically, your account must first be approved by Nexio.

Only keyed-in cards can be refunded (not terminal transactions).

If the feature has not yet been enabled on your account, refund attempts will fail.
